Mansfield Mo Schools host Chute Camp for Basketball Players

June 2nd, 2009

The Chute -- Chute Camp for Basketball

When someone sent me an email last week asking for local contact information for announcing Chute Camp, I was extremely perplexed, even after I was assured this was a REAL project.  Chute Camp????

But, we’ve continued to correspond and I’ve researched and learned that this is a BIG project for basketball players at Mansfield School and players who attend area schools.

These lucky kids will have The Chute to work on their basketball presentation and scoring success on June 15 and 16.  There are sessions for 9th-12th grade girls and 4t-8th grade girls  There is a small fee of $60 for the two days.

Pre-camp application forms are available at  The Chute website http://www.stgsports.com .  Walk-in participants are welcome and may register and pay the $60 on the first day of the camp.

I’m glad to see Mansfield School taking the initiative to have a camp here.  I know it is probably great fun to go away to basketball camp, but to know you play for a leadership which promotes your skills right at home has to be encouraging and inspiring to players.  That opinion in no way diminishes the opportunity for other schools in the area to enjoy the Chute Camp because the players from area schools are invited to participate.

Most likely coaches have been priming players to keep these dates open, but just in case, BASKETBALL Players, get your application form and attend.

I became more interested in this project when I learned that The Chute project is located at Newell, Iowa.  I lived in that small NW Iowa town as a child until early teens.  I phoned them this morning and had some very encouraging conversations and good service from the staff there.

Country Boys Playin’ Music or Challengin’ Bulls at Kickin Country Weekend in Mountain Grove, MO

May 30th, 2009

Kickin Country Weekend in Mountain Grove, Missouri is comin’ at us pretty fast.  Local businesses have joined to promote the opportunity for folks in the region on June 19th and 20th to enjoy quality entertainment and get their Ozarks summer off to a hot, fast race through the season.

Sponsors for the Aaron Tippin concert (with Jeff Sullivan and Jason Plummer as opening acts) on Friday night, June 19 and the BULL BASH (S&G Productions, with JW Hart Cattle Company) include businesses contributing at all levels.   Every effort counts toward the end result.

Bar JD (barjd.com) is me, in case you didn’t know.  I’m joining the effort as a neighbor.  Edgellar & Harper work right in the home territory of Mountain Grove. They offer Kubota tractors and equipment, plus some valuable parts for vintage Massey Ferguson equipment. (which is how we know them because Richard is all vintage equipment all the time)  We were in the shop just this morning making exciting purchases of SHEER pins for that Massey Ferguson small bale baler which has to be one of the most babied pieces of farm equipment in Wright County.   We value these neighbors and visited with them a bit about the $10 advanced sale tickets for Kickin Country Weekend.

As BarJD.com, I’ve been entertaining my friends by offering a bounty on  specific T-shirts  that they should wear to the autograph session with Aaron Tippin and bring back to me.

The Ozarks and Wright County aren’t paying any attention to the recession;  we’ve been too pressed to the wall since time began to pay attention period.  We concentrate on the Ozarks Mystique, the neighbors and savoring the company and hospitality when there is a good program of the people’s music in a family environment.  Kickin’  Country Weekend does that on June 19th and 20th with Aaron Tippin, plus Jeff Sullivan and Jason Plummer as well as the Bull Bash.

Advance tickets for the Aaron Tippin concert are available for $10 … they will be $15 at the gate.  Contact Alexis or RickyV and the Super Star on Big Country 99 radio (99.3 fm on your dial) for more information.

May 30th, 2009

Mansfield Community Center has a cheerful little fund raiser event from time to time that is just part of the hospitality of folks at  Mansfield, Missouri.

Every month of the year that has a FIFTH FRIDAY makes that Friday an occasion for a lunch party.  For a $5 donation to the Community Center, you can have a tasty, ample lunch and enjoy the company of your neighbors.  No reservations are necessary — Mansfield Community Center & Community Betterment are the neighbors; there’s always room for more at the table.  Neighbors and hospitality are basics in the Ozarks Mystique

Weather permitting, they grill big burgers and dogs, add chips and the Ozarks staple — TEA.

I missed the event yesterday, but I’m marking my calendars for the next one in July and then the next one in October.

The $5 price makes it a good chance to pick up some extra tickets and treat your staff to lunch for a good cause.  The little donations add up for the support of a neighbor business/facility that returns the favor countless ways in our community.

Mansfield is extremely fortunate to be located at the junction of Hwy 5 and Hwy 60 plus have a facility like the Mansfield Community Center.  That isn’t all, but we’re going to leave the focus of the conversation there today.

Festivals in the Ozarks = Friends & Family + Visitors for Good Times

May 9th, 2009

The Ozarks is a central location for festivals.  There is just something going on every weekend…usually more than one thing.

Often the communities who are celebrating have locations which permit visitors to enjoy and share the good times at more than one spot.   All the while, enjoying a local outing  that doesn’t break the bank.

In Wright County, Missouri, you will find rolling mountain country with a few strong communities, each of which has festivals, usually in multiple.

A festival makes a chance for the neighbors to come in out of the country and visit, enjoy entertainment, view parades, check out vendors of crafts and foods, maybe be the big winner in a raffle.

There are events for July 4th, Harvest, Christmas, Easter and Schools in Mansfield, Hartville, Norwood and Mountain Grove.   Almost makes you wonder when the people can work because of so much community party!    Mansfield’s Wilder Days event commemorates renowned children’s author, Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the “Little House”  books at her farm home near Mansfield, Missouri.

Beyond the communities,  you can find entertainment and camaraderie at private celebrations such as annual sorghum cooking events, July 4th and family reunions.

Businesses get into the round-robin of visiting as well.  There are monthly events at Bakersville which is the setting for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and regular tours available at  Simpsons Fruit Farm, plus some wonderful produce, honey and pumpkins in seasons.

Virtual Business Map can be a Treasure with Virtual Business Startup Systems

February 8th, 2009

As more and more people see things change with their onsite jobs, the possibilities in working virtually can become reality.

Virtual Business Startup System — Nothing Works Like a Map is a blog post written at the official blog for Bar JD Communications, Virtually @ Eight Twenty-two.   Writer, JudyAnn Lorenz discusses the options of setting up as an outsource business.

As a member of VAnetworking.com since 2005, Lorenz has watched the Virtual Business Startup System successfully work for newbie virtual assistants who come looking at the field with little understanding of what virtual assistance means.

30 days of working and planning with this system can have a business to a professional level at launch which is especially important in the competitive shark pond of today’s business market.

Historically, the virtual assistant world has been populated by women who were administrative professionals in the onsite business world, but decided to make a shift to working independently.  However, men as well as women are looking for ways to make their skills profitable by working for clients in an independent environment.  Frequently, the client list can include former employers who had to make decisions about onsite work.  Decisions which translated into layoff for people.

Making a change to independence means working from a fully equipped office and stopping the commute to the office every day.  Costs are changed and those funds could be applied to the investment in the new business.  There is a possibility that as part of a severance package, people could negotiate for funding in business planning.

No matter what the resource, the Virtual Business Startup System is one of the best, under $500 investments skilled people can make in themselves.   Check at VAnetworking.com today and try an excerpt of the system to see how powerful and valuable this can be.  Additionally, because of geography, there are skilled people in the Ozarks who are looking for ways to use their skills profitably…virtually.

Cardinal Point VA, where are you?

January 5th, 2009

I would like to make sure you are familiar with VAnetworking.com and invite you to be a member.  Today, TweetLater sent your twitter name to me in the keyword tracker.  Today, it looked as if you were not too far away from where I am working in the Ozarks, but you must be visiting because it looks as if you are based in California.

Your admiration of Cardinals is something that I appreciate. I have enjoyed their company ever since moving back to the midwest.  My family and close friends have a freebie gift list because I seriously collect Cardinal ’stuff’.

I hope you are having a good trip, and to repeat, even before you leave the Ozarks, I hope you see this and join up at VAnetworking.com to network with other legal VAs.

Best wishes.

SAHM and WAHM is not French for Brain Drain!

December 28th, 2008

Let me say first that the term Brain Drain applies to those who LEAVE an area and take their smarts with them to benefit another area because there are no opportunities and perhaps there is persecution where the smart people began their journey.

SAHM — Stay at Home Moms and WAHM — Work at Home Moms do not fit into this category.  They have much to contribute in addition to chasing rug rats around the house.  But in recent forums, I see where SAHMs especially feel that they have been victimized by their student loans because they aren’t employed and maybe don’t choose to be.

I say baloney.  With technology being what it is today, use your noodles to figure out ways that you can work, earn and enrich your offspring with your company most of the time.   There are some wonderful networking possibilities for you at VAnetworking.com     Begin your journey one step at a time with the free side there and as you find your path, you may want to expand your investment.  You will get an incredible amount of support and acknowledgement at VAnetworking.com because most of your peers there are doing exactly what you want to do.  Enjoy their children, use their brains and education, EARN and connect at a level that stimulates their mental and emotional growth.  You will find that they have a great deal of fun together while doing it!

Your student loans didn’t sneak up and bite you.  They were a crutch for you to obtain that diploma and deserve some respect.

Secondly, or Salami…you earned a college degree.  That at least says that you had what it takes to show up for class every day, do assignments satisfactorily and be mature.  Maybe you are having a difficult time finding a job in your FIELD.   Try a different one.  Others will respect your accomplishment and make room for someone who wants to get on board and bring energy to the party.

Potential Careers in the Ozarks — Consider Virtual Work

November 25th, 2008

Working virtually, largely on the Internet is a possibility for a new career when job options seem to dry up.  Taking your skills to the outsourcing market is becoming known as Virtual Assistance. The field goes from administrative assistance to computer tech work and everywhere in between.  Both men and women are beginning to outsource their skills from their own computers.

There are large groups all over the planet which offer networking potential and information about becoming a virtual professional.  The people who work virtually are typically independent contractors.  This option works very well when clients do not need someone full time for their specific projects. The virtual professional as in independent business person can support multiple clients.

Vanetworking.com is one that I admire and participate in.  Vanetworking.com offers both a free side and a paid side.  The free side has access to a great deal of information, networking and opportunity to ask questions about beginning a virtual business.  The paid side, VAInsiders, offers access to deeper information and privileges and becomes more useful when you have made the decision to follow a virtual career.

I have been a virtual professional since 2003.  It is  not a get-rich quick or even get-rich anytime path to take.  However, with skills that meet the needs of clients, being a virtual assistant is a good way to earn a living.  I prefer it to other fields!

If you have skills that you think you could offer from a distance, I suggest you check out Vanetworking.com to do a little more research about the potential for your future.
